Last Updated 31 January 2014, 19:22 IST

Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will launch the campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka from Gulbarga on Saturday.

The party has planned a grand felicitation to her as a token of gratitude for meeting the demand of amending the Article 371 of the Constitution for giving special status to the backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

About two lakh people from all six districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary are expected to turn up for the public meeting to be held at the sprawling N V Grounds. Prior to addressing the public meeting, she will inaugurate the ESIC Medical College and buildings of ESIC Hospital, Dental College, and Nursing College constructed at a cost of Rs 893 crore. The Congress party is banking on Sonia Gandhi to reap electoral dividends for her gesture of making constitutional intervention for the development of the region.

AICC general secretary in-charge of State, Digvijay Singh, KPCC president G Parameshwara, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, all Union ministers from State, all in-charge ministers of six districts and elected representatives are expected to attend the event.
