KSPCB chairman loses Cabinet rank status

Last Updated 31 January 2014, 19:26 IST

The government has withdrawn the Cabinet rank status given to Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) chairman Vaman Acharya. His salary and perks too have been cut.

Acharya was appointed to KSPCB in September 2012 for a period of three years when Jagadish Shettar was the chief minister. He was accorded the Cabinet rank status and paid a salary of Rs 25,000. But the present Congress government has cut it down to Rs 9,000. The orders were passed on January 28. His housing and petrol reimbursement allowances have also been cut.

Acharya said the government would pay him some sort of honorarium. “It is the chief minister who decides on the salary. My revised salary is now on a par with what is being paid to the heads of boards and corporations. But other facilities like using the board car for official visits will continue,” he said.
