Rousing reception for Ranji Trophy winning squad; skipper Vinay confident of team’s future

The Karnataka team that won the Ranji Trophy returned home on Monday to a rousing reception. The team was greeted at the Kempegowda International airport by the managing committee members of the KSCA and it was a just a prelude to the celebrations awaiting them at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

The team was welcomed to the stadium with bursting of crackers before the players were felcitated by the association president P R Ashok Anand and secretary Brijesh Patel in a simple yet warm function. Every member of the squad -- players, support and administrative staff -- was presented with a garland and bouquet as rounds of applause rang around the KSCA media room.

Ashok Anand congratulated the team for their consistency over the season. “It was a great feeling to see the team from your state winning the Ranji Trophy, and, hopefully, they will keep up the good efforts in the coming days as well. They were really consistent during the entire season as shown by the number of outright wins they managed to stitch together,” he said.

Patel stressed on the fusion of experience and youth as the reason behind Karnataka’s overwhelming success this season, while skipper R Vinay Kumar touched on team unity.

“We have a great bunch of guys who are very young and hungry to perform. I feel we have it in us to keep winning and our goal is to dominate Indian cricket for the next ten years.” Rest of his words got washed away in thunderous applause.
