Cable TV customers in the city have been suffer blackouts of several channels, for not furnishing Customer Application Forms (CAF). While cable TV operators have blamed the Multi System Operators (MSO) for the black out, MSO’s have vested the blame on cable TV operators for not furnishing the necessary forms.

All the cable operators had to submit CAFs of its customers on January 31. Following a protest of cable operators and a subsequent meeting with MSOs in Bangalore, cable services of customers who had submitted their documents, is expected to resume within the next two days.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, President of Karnataka State Cable TV Operators Association, Patrick Raju said that MSOs, cable operators and in some cases, the customers were responsible for the problems caused. “In some places, cable operators have defaulted by not submitting CAFs. Some MSOs too have defaulted. CAFs of some customers too have not been submitted,” he said.

The major problem, he said, was with respect to some customers who have had already submitted their CAFs, but their set top boxes have been switched off. The issue will be resolved soon, he said.    A cable TV operator in Mysore, who did not wish to be named, alleged that the CAF issue had affected more than half the cable television connections in Mysore. “MSOs have not taken care of the applications, due to which, customers are affected,” he said.

Incommunicado

Amidst the issue affecting thousands of customers in the city, the cable TV operators of the city remained inaccessible to the customers. Many customers complained about not knowing about the CAFs, and when they tried to contact cable operators, they were inaccessible to them. While only a few channels were inaccessible to customers under a cable TV network, a few others suffered blackout of all channels. Thejesh V, a resident of Metagalli in the city, complained that even though a ticker had appeared on several television channels about the blackout, the cable TV operators were not responding to the calls made by customers. Attempts to contact cable TV operators in the city by the correspondent went in vain.
