The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday launched “Namma Bangalore, Nanna Koduge” (Our Bangalore, my contribution) project, which offers an opportunity to the corporate bodies to play a pivotal role in building a better City.

Under the programme, the BBMP intends to involve corporate firms to adopt schools, lakes, hospitals, medians and grade separators.

This allows the cash-strapped civic agency to divert its funds for some other public purposes.

Speaking on the occasion, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said that the Palike was responsible for maintaining 237 parks, 157 schools, 29 hospitals, 46 medians and 27 grade separators in the City.

In addition, the BBMP has also selected 10 lakes for adoption.

“The objective of the programme is to create a platform for the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the Palike limits. We aim at involving interested corporates and companies in the development works of the BBMP, especially in infrastructure, environment, financial reforms, administration and e-governance,” he added.

Mayor B S Satyanarayana said the City needs assistance from corporate houses to develop Bangalore on a par with international standards. The mayor said the number of banks, companies and industrial houses have come forward to take up the responsibility.
The mayor added that the joint commissioners of the eight zones of BBMP have been asked to identify the works the corporates could take up.

The Palike would enter into a memorandum of understanding with companies.
