Last Updated 09 February 2014, 19:52 IST

A sixth standard student allegedly raped a three-year-old girl in Soladevanahalli police station limits on Saturday. According to police, the boy, a resident of Kere Guddadahalli and a neighbour of the victim, took the girl to his house on the “pretext” of teaching her alphabet. His parents, who work as labourers, were away from the house on their job when the incident occurred.

The incident came to light when the girl’s mother noticed that she (the victim) was dull and fatigued after returning home. When she was “convinced” that her daughter had been sexually assaulted, the mother made a complaint to the police.

The Soladevanahalli police took the boy into custody and sent him to the Juvenile Home. The boy often used to take the girl to his house and hence the girl’s parents did not stop him on Saturday. The police said the girl was attending an anganawadi centre near her house. Both the boy and the girl have been subjected to medical tests.

Newborn abandoned

A newborn baby girl was found abandoned on the premises of Mariyamma temple in Chellakere, Hennur police limits, on Saturday night. According to police, the baby was wrapped in white cloth and left on the temple premises. The neighbours noticed the baby after hearing its cries. On information, the police shifted the infant to Dr Ambedkar Hospital.

“The baby’s health had deteriorated as it was left out in the cold. It appears that the infant is just a couple of days old. A case has been registered,” a police officer said.

Constable attacked

A police constable on night patrol was assaulted by a group of young men who were found engaged in substance abuse at Padarayanapura in JJ Nagar police station limits on Saturday.

Lokesh, a constable attached to JJ Nagar police station, confronted a group of young men who were sniffing correction fluid at an isolated place. On noticing the policeman, the youths took to heels and threw stones at him as he attempted to catch them.

However, he managed to catch Nayaz, a resident of Haleguddadahalli, while the rest escaped. Lokesh sustained injuries as he was hit by stones, police said.

Auto driver murdered

An autorickshaw driver was stabbed to death allegedly by his friend following a fight over money matters at Nanjamba Agrahara in Chamarajpet on Sunday. The victim has been identified as Ramesh (45), a resident of Nanjamba Agrahara. Police said that Krishna, a construction contractor, picked a quarrel with Ramesh over a financial issue.

An inebriated Krishna then stabbed Ramesh. The Kempegowda Nagar police have registered a case.
