AIFF suspends Gawli, Naik

Dempo had stopped Gawli and Naik from joining the senior national camp in Goa earlier this month, claiming they were recuperating from their respective knee and hamstring injuries.

“We have decided to refer this matter to the disciplinary committee of the federation for action. Till the committee meets and takes a decision, the duo will not be allowed to play for Dempo. They cannot even play the local league.

“We will definitely come out with a decision before the start of Federation Cup. For the time being, the matter has been referred to disciplinary committee which has the powers to either suspend the club or fine the club as per the regulations,” AIFF general secretary Alberto Colaco said after the meeting.

The AIFF has also decided to organise the Federation Cup in Guwahati from December 20-January 3, even though the draws are yet to be made.

“There was a letter from Dempo who wanted to shift the venue for security reasons. But we have decided to stick with Guwahati,” said Colaco.

He further said Churchill’s AFC Champions League play-off matches will have to be shifted out of Goa because of India-South Africa ODI at Nehru Stadium at Margao in early February. “We have to make some adjustments there. Churchill’s matches will be affected,” Colaco said.
