Rs 19.5 lakh stolen from apparel shop

Rs 19.5 lakh in cash was stolen from an apparel shop in Chickpet police station limits on Sunday. Police have suspected the role of two brothers who were working as salesmen in the shop.

According to Chickpet police, the shop of a person by name Jinesh is located on the second floor of a shopping complex and he had employed two brothers as salesmen. The shop is kept open only till noon on Sundays and the duo had handed over the keys to Jinesh after downing the shutter.

 However, the security guard of the complex reporting for duty at night noticed that the shutter was partially open and informed Jinesh immediately, who rushed to the shop. It came to light that cash of Rs 19.5 lakh was missing from the cash box. He had kept the cash in the shop as it was a Sunday and banks were closed, police said. A search has been launched to trace the absconding brothers. Chickpet police have registered a case.

Chains snatched

Motorcycle-borne youths snatched gold chains from two women in Yelahanka and Ramamurthynagar police station limits on Sunday. Radhamani, a resident of Marutinagar, Yelahanka, was feeding her neighbour's child around 9 pm when two youths on motorcycle snatched her gold chain weighing 10 gm.

She screamed for help but in vain as the street was deserted. In another incident, Ashok, a resident of Ramamurthynagar, lodged a complaint that around 9.30 pm, two youths came on a motorcycle and snatched his wife’s 40-gm gold chain when she was taking a stroll near their home, police said. 

The Rajajinagar police have arrested a chain snatcher and recovered gold chains worth Rs 4.50 lakh from him. According to police, Siddaraju alias Siddaramaiah used to target women on deserted streets and snatch their chains. He and his accomplice Mahantesh, currently in jail, were involved in many such cases.

Similarly, Kalasipalya police arrested three chain snatchers and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs seven lakh from them. Mohammed Yunus, 25, Naseer, 21,  and Anwar Pasha, 24, used to steal two-wheelers from parking lots and used such vehicles for snatching chains. Three of their associates, Haneef, Nawaz and Noorullah, are absconding, police said.
