'I am still kicked about the award'

Different take

Actress Suman Ranganath seems to be in no hurry – neither in her personal life nor her career.

Other than staying fit and looking good, which is quite indispensable for an actor, she also does a whole lot of other things like travelling, for instance.

And she works on only those projects that she thinks are worth her time and talent. Her choosy nature has in fact got her some good roles. She won the ‘Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress’ for Sidlingu. “I am still kicked about the award and this
truly shows that hard work pays. Recognitions may come late but it was worth the wait,” says Suman.  Suman was last seen in Kannada films in an item number in Jinkemari which she says, she really wanted to try out. “Item numbers are fun and it depends on how people interpret them. They require a different kind of energy,” she feels.

Although, Ramya and Suman didn’t share screen space together in Sidlingu, the two will be seen in Neer Dose, in which Suman plays a bharatanatyam dancer.
“It’s a simple role that people can relate to and the movie will have a lot of one-liners, which I am sure will become popular with the people even in their daily life,” she says.

Other than Kannada and Hindi films, Suman has also acted in Tamil films. She returned to the Tamil film industry with Aarambam, opposite actor Ajit where she played the role of a journalist.

“I played a journalist who was always in the thick of action. It was only after the role that I understood journalists have it really tough on the field. For them, it is a constant battle between cops and politicians,” she reasons. Suman has a couple more
offers lined up from the Tamil film industry.

Suman is easily in her late thirties but she looks nothing like her age. She says that she doesn’t spend long hours at the gym trying to stay in
shape.

“I eat less when I am away from home but I don’t spare any of my favourite dishes. Honestly, I think I have the genes of my parents who don’t look their
age at all,” she signs off.
