Addressing a press meet after the convention of seers and religious leaders here on Tuesday, he said that people are living in fear following the communal unrest in Ullal. The government should instill confidence in them. The State government and the police have failed to initiate action to instill confidence among the members of Mogaveera communtiy.

“We are not against any community. However, we want to protect Hindu religion and safety of the people. We want to ensure that peace prevails in Ullal,” he said. The seer said that all the seers will meet Mogaveera community members, in case of necessity and will meet members of Muslim community to find out an amicable solution for the problems faced by the people in Ullal.

“We want peace and harmony in Dakshina Kannada district and ensure that no one is met with injustice in the society. We are also hearing incidents of communal unrest in Bantwal taluk. In case of necessity, we will visit Bantwal as well,” he added.

We will welcome members of minority community to visit us. We want people to live unitedly and harmoniuously in the society.

There is a need to create a condusive atmosphere in society to help to live without fear.” Odiyur seer Gurudevananada said that the attempt of the seer should be a foreward to peace in the district.

In a press release released to the media, the seers have urged the police to release 15 innocents including six juveniles arrested in connection with communal unrest in Ullal.

“Miscreants have been harassing members of a community for the last few days. The government should be impartial and should not support one particular community. In the backdrop of assault on members of Hindu community, the police should provide suitable protection to them. We will also meet Governor to appraise the situation.”

The seers have condemned Deralakatte incident, theft of cattle, slaughtering of cattle, desecrating places of worship and other incidents which had created unrest in the society.
