'Films and cricket make a heady mix'

After his son Arjun Kapoor made his entry in Bollywood, producer Boney Kapoor is often asked when his daughters will enter the film industry. “They’re still studying but I am sure they will enter films when they are ready to,” he tells Metrolife when he was in the City recently.

Boney confesses that he began his filmi journey with Bengali cinema. It was his love for cricket and the urge to do something for the Bengali film industry that prompted him to buy the ‘Bengal Tigers’ for the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). He says he finds the ‘Twenty 20’ format of cricket quite exciting. “Films and cricket make a heady mix. And it attracts a lot of people. It’s interesting to watch the actors live in action.

Winning or losing is not important, the primary motive is to share the excitement of the game. It’s wonderful to be able to be in the cricket field during CCL and cheer on,” Boney says. He says that more than cricket, CCL has brought people from different regions, languages and background together to share their ideas and
expressions.

When asked what plans he has for his children, Boney Kapoor confesses that he and Sridevi have not planned their children’s future. “They are free to do anything they like as long as they make the right choice and don’t regret it later. There’s no compulsion to follow a particular path. Children must be given the freedom to choose what they like,” he states.

Boney is thrilled about Arjun’s foray into films. What advice does he have for the young man? “To be honest, in whatever he does, I tell him that all the time. In fact, it was Salman Khan who inspired him to join the film industry. He trains at his institute,” Boney says and adds, “Salman has played a big part in getting Arjun
interested in films.”

Boney is confident that Arjun will make a mark as he has assisted and has had his share of training in the film industry before plunging into acting. About Sridevi making a comeback, Boney says, “I am happy for her and I am glad she’s getting back to focussing on her career.”

It was rumoured that Boney Kapoor Productions wanted to remake Ganesh and Amulya starrer Shravani Subramanya, which was a big hit, but Boney says, “It is an interesting film but nothing has been finalised as yet.”
