A tattoo helps police uncover murder mystery

Man, his nephew had stabbed a youth to death over vehicle theft

A vehicle theft case that eventually ended in the murder of a youth has been busted by Vidyaranyapuram police recently, with the arrest of two in this regard.

What came in handy here for the investigators was the tattoo on the victim’s body. The accused have been identified as Ramesh alias Narasimha, 30 years, a resident of J P Nagar, and his  nephew Teja alias Tejkumar, 23 years, of the same locality. The two had stabbed Vinod Kumar alias ‘Vindy’ on January 23.

Initially, the case was murky, with the police recovering the body of Vindy from the terrace of a half-constructed building on ninth cross, near Andani Circle. The incident came to light three days after the incident occurred, according to police.

Barring the features of the body, the only other feature that could help the police in tracing the identity of the victim was a tattoo ‘Vasantha S’ in English on his left hand.

Body identified

Finally, the police could reach the victim’s father Mahadev, a resident of J P Nagar. According to Mahadev, Vindy had not returned home for 20 days. He confirmed that the body was that of his son’s.

When the probe was intensified, investigators came across Vindy’s friends Madhu and Imran who told them about an altercation between Vindy and the accused. Teja who had procured a stolen motorbike from his friend, had returned the same when the latter could not provide the documents to dispose the mobike.

Vindy, who had intervened on behalf of his friend, had threatened Teja once, which later proved costly for him.The police team was led by Circle Inspector K C Prakash, consisting of L Srinivas and others, said a press release from the office of the police commissioner.
