'Chai Pe Charcha' draws huge crowds

The ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ campaign of the BJP to project its prime minsterial candidate Narendra Modi, was held at more than two dozen locations across the City on Wednesday.

Primarily a congregation of BJP workers and supporters, the tea stalls set up for the campaign drew sizeable crowds. Television sets were installed at the stalls which beamed Modi’s speech, live from Ahmedabad.

“Personally, I am a Modi fan, but not BJP supporter. A few of my friends asked me if I wanted to work with them to set up the stage for the event, and I agreed. I was also allowed to ask questions to Modi,” said Nischith Kashyap, a 23-year-old mechanical engineer.

Kashyap suggested Modi that there should be an online system for ensuring accountability of elected representatives. He said MPs should be able to receive suggestions and address problems in their constituencies online and this facility should be part of Modi’s “good governance” concept.

Modi, who answered in Hindi concurred with Kashyap saying that technology should be harnessed to ensure accountability in governance.

“It is not a question of releasing funds for projects. It is also about the kind of projects which make a difference to the people that need to be accounted. Governments must give an account of not only every penny but also every second which they spend in power,” the Gujarat chief minister said.

Lok Sabha members P C Mohan, Ananthkumar and legislator Suresh Kumar were present at the Rajajinagar stall. Modi could take only one question from Bangalore during his televised interaction.
