A tiger has killed a cow in Kumbaradi village in Moodigere on Wednesday. With this incident, the tiger menace has reached the fourth day in Urubage Gram Panchayat limits.

The tiger had injured three cows which were grazing in the surroundings of the village which is attached to Devaramane forest area of Shishila hills in Shiradi Ghat and on Wednesday, it killed a four-year-old cow belonging to Prasanna.

Following the fear of the tiger, the villagers were tying cows in their houses. On Wednesday, the tiger entered a cardamom plantation where the cow was tied. It attacked the cow and injured its neck. When Prasanna came to take the cow back to house in the evening, he found the tiger attacking the cow.

He immediately gathered the villagers and went ahead to the spot, holding torch lights. On the site of people, the tiger left the cow and fled to the forest. Prasanna said that the cow, lying in the pool of blood, died in a few minutes.

The incident has been reported to the forest department and department staff have carried out search operation for the tiger in the village.

Second victim

It may be recalled that a tiger has killed a cow belonging to Ramu, six months back. Deputy Conservator of Forest Ramesh Babu said that on receiving complaints regarding tiger attack, the forest staff has been sent to the spot. As the village is adjacent to the forest, there are possibilities of tiger dwelling in the surroundings. A letter has been written to the Veterinary officer, seeking a report.

More staff will be deployed in the place to control tiger menace and there is no need for the villagers to be afraid of, he said.
