Cabinet sub-committee to look into Jamma Bane issue

It is an attempt to sort out the confusion prevailing over the issue of imposing tax on Jamma Bane land

In order to sort out the confusion prevailing over the issue of imposing tax on Jamma Bane land in Kodagu, the issue will be brought to the notice of the Cabinet sub-committee, said Revenue Department Principal Secretary Basavaraju.

He was speaking at a review meeting on revenue matters including Jamma Bane, allotting sites to ex-servicemen etc. Steps have been taken to get information on RTC from farmers, so as to enable them to avail government facilities by imposing tax on Jamma Bane land that they have been enjoying from decades. A detailed report on the issue will be submitted to the Cabinet sub-committee. Decision will be taken after holding discussions in the Cabinet sub-committee, he said.

Further, he assured on behalf of the revenue department to extend full co-operation to the district administration in settling land revenue issues. He directed the deputy commissioner to give details on land revenue in writing. “Sites should be allotted to ex-servicemen who have submitted applications, based on the land availability. A lot of land is needed for public purpose in the future. Therefore, a comprehensive blueprint has to be prepared in advance,” he suggested the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tiwari said that people in Kodagu are demanding to allow them avail several government facilities by imposing tax on Jamma Bane cultivators as per the Land Revenue Act of 1980. Clarification has been sought in this regard, he said.Additional DC H Prasanna, Assistant Commissioner Abhiram G Shankar, Land Records Deputy Director Mallikarjuna and others were present.

Earlier, the Principal Secretary inspected the under construction building of the new office of the deputy commissioner. Since Chief Minister Siddharamaiah is scheduled to inaugurate the building this month end, he directed to complete the pending work at the earliest. 

Basavaraju also assured that maximum amount will be released for the construction of the road that connects Mangalore road and the new DC’s office and for building the retaining wall.
