The Ayush Federation of India, Karnataka threatens to go on strike from February 19 if the competent authority refuse to accord permission to use allopathy medicine for treating patients in case of emergency.

Over 40,000 medical professionals from both the public and private sector practicing Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homoeopathy said that they would stop services if a notification was not issued by the State government in this regard.

“If nothing would be done in this regard before February 19, we will stage satyagraha and jail bharo andolan across the state and this would affect 2.5 crore people across the State,”said Dr Mahaveer Haveri, General Secretary, Ayush Federation of India, Karnataka.

He sought to know, “While 12 other states have accepted this, then why not Karnataka?

It is our basic right,” said Dr N A Magadum, President, Ayush Federation of India, Karnataka. “Even in case of emergencies, we are not allowed to treat the patients,” he added.

Further, the members said that they had approached the government and discussed the matter with the officials and bureaucrats but their repeated pleas have failed to yield desired results, they added.

‘No generalisation’

Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, said that as the life of the patient was in question, such decisions could not be taken without proper consideration. He added that even as a few doctors might be qualified to administer allopathy medicines, generalisation could not be done.

“Non-cooperation would yield no solution. It is ideal that we have discussions and sort out the issue,” he said.
