The victim, Arun Kumar, a bakery employee, is battling for life in Apollo Hospital. The incident occurred near the residence of Commissioner of Police. According to sources, a few youth in two high-end cars were drag-racing and one of them rammed his vehicle into Arun Kumar before hitting a transformer pole at the 16th cross of BTM Layout at about 1.30 am. Arun had parked his bike to smoke when a car took U-turn at a speed of 120 kmph and rammed into him.

The two-wheeler has been reduced to a heap of metal. Arun sustained grievous injuries in his head and jaws. The passersby immediately caught the drag racer along with his vehicle and informed the family members of Arun. He was later shifted to hospital.

Arun’s friend Abhishek alleged that the policemen who rushed to the spot are trying to cover up the incident. “We all know that the drag racer who caused the accident is Jayanth but the police are claiming that one Aditya hit Arun Kumar. We came to know that Jayanth, son of an insurance company officer, did not have a driving licence and was under the influence of drug at the time of accident,” said Abhishek.

Inebriated

When contacted, the ACP of Adugodi traffic police circle Lokesh denied any incident of drag racing. He also refuted that there was anyone by name Jayanth at the spot. He said that both Aditya and Arun Kumar were in inebriated.

“Our alcometer showed that Aditya had 61 per cent alcohol which is permissible as per law whereas Arun Kumar was fully under the influence of liquor. There was no drag racing. Aditya tried to take a right turn and could not spot Arun Kumar coming from the other direction,” the ACP claimed.
