A 23-year-old man, who was reportedly carrying Rs 11 lakh in cash, has gone “missing” from Kumaraswamy Layout police limits on Thursday.

Police have identified the person as Shashi Kumar, son of Appaji Gowda, who works in the zilla panchayat office on Kanakapura Road. While Kumar’s family claimed that he might have been kidnapped, police suspect that he went on his own as the cash belonged to his father.

According to the police, Kumar, a college dropout, was last seen waiting in a car at the ZP office parking lot. He was given Rs 11 lakh in cash by his uncle who asked him to hand over the money to his father. Later, Kumar’s uncle went to meet Gowda.

When Kumar’s uncle and Gowda returned to the parking lot, they found the car missing. Gowda tried to contact his son on mobile but it was switched off. He immediately alerted the KS Layout police, stating that his son had been kidnapped.

Car traced

The KS Layout police, who rushed to the spot, traced the car to the parking lot at Satellite bus station on Mysore Road and found the mobile phone on one of the seats. The police searched the car and did not find any clue of him being kidnapped.

“We suspect that Kumar might have taken a bus to go out of station and we have sent several teams to temples in the State and to his native place in Maddur,” said a senior police officer.
