SP learns from Modi, tries to connect better with voters
In an attempt to counter BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has decided to take the social media route to connect with people of the state.

The young Samajwadi Party leader will soon launch ‘Talk to Your CM' campaign through his Facebook page to “directly speak” to people and seek their suggestions on a variety of issues.

The campaign comes barely days after the much publicised ‘Chai Par Charcha’ (discussion over tea) programme by Modi through which he spoke directly to millions of people across the country.

Some four lakh people have so far ‘liked’ Akhilesh’s Facebook page and the chief minister expects that a large number of people, especially youths, will join him in this campaign. The campaign’s tagline is ‘You too can bring in change in Uttar Pradesh’, officials said here.

They said the chief minister has decided that all constructive suggestions received from people should be put into practice. The officials said departments have been asked to make sure that good suggestions were implemented.

The officials said the government has so far distributed 15 lakh free laptops to students who cleared the intermediate examinations in 2012 and 2013.

“Many of the students will be voting for the first time in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The exercise is aimed at connecting with them and other youths in the state,” an official said.

Akhilesh was instrumental in bringing change in the philosophy of the SP. On his prodding the SP gave up its opposition to use of computers and English language.
