Gujarat Cong to showcase UPA model of progress

With pre-poll predictions heavily stacked against it, the Gujarat Congress on Saturday launched a ‘Swaraj kooch’ yatra across the state, declaring that its fight in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections would be based on `past track record’ and not targeted at ‘just a particular individual’.

Flagging off the yatra, Ahmed Patel, the high-profile political secretary of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi said, the party needs to formulate its election strategy vis a vis the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

“Our strategy is based on the work we have done. Pro people steps like the NREGA  will form the basis of our campaign, not any individual who is obsessed with himself,’’ said Patel, directing his attack at the Gujarat chief minister. He said that the yatra would also focus on the achievements of the UPA government rather than targeting any party or individual.
He said that the Gujarat model, which the Chief Minister was harping on, was the model of one individual. “The model of one person which has failed on all fronts. Be it malnutrition or  growth on every parameter, he has failed,’’ said Patel.

He alleged that the Modi government was benefiting a select few corporates and not the entire state, something evidenced by data of various agencies and sectors.
