Saumya Padhye is the top seed in the women’s singles with Jacqueline Kunnath seeded a rank below.

Into its 19th edition, the Dec 1-7 tournament is being upgraded to a five-star level for the first time with a total prize money of Rs 1,52,500. While the men’s champion will pocket Rs 10,000, the women’s champion will get Rs 6,000.

Competition will be held in under-10, u-13, u-16 and u-19 age categories for both boys and girls in singles as well as doubles. With the Senior National ranking tournament scheduled to start on December 8, the men’s and women’s draw will be held first, followed by the other events. With the Senior National ranking meet scheduled to begin next Tuesday, it has been decided to conclude the men’s and women’s matches by December 4.

The organisers also said they will use ‘tournamentsoftware’ for scheduling of matches -- a first for a state-ranking tournament in India. “Although five states have purchased ‘tournamentsoftware’ from Badminton Association of India, Karnataka will be the first to use it for a State-ranking tournament,” said Karnataka Badminton Association Secretary NC Sudhir.
