Man assaults neighbour woman, commits suicide

Last Updated 21 February 2014, 18:28 IST

Owing to old enmity, a 34-year-old man carried a murderous assault on his neighbour woman, before ending his life at Madhavagere village, Varuna hobli, in the district on Friday.

Manjunath, son of late Nanjappa, and Shivamma, wife of late Siddalingappa, are the victims. Shivamma, who has suffered multiple injuries, is admitted at K R Hospital, in the city.

Shivamma, who had lost her husband three years ago, was living with her son Dhananjay, studying final year BA at Maharaja’s College in the city.

In her statement to South police, Shivamma has alleged that Manjunath barged into her house around 9 am. Even as her son and others tried to restrain him, Manjunath attacked Shivamma with a machete. Manjunath inflicted wounds on her abdomen, neck and other parts, leaving her in a pool of blood.

After sometime, Manjunath was found writhing at an agricultural field of Nagaraj on the outskirts of the village. Fearing further consequences, Manjunath had consumed an overdose of poisonous tablets, the police said. He died on his way to the hospital.

Police said, the crux of the incident is a complaint lodged by Dhananjaya, Shivamma’s son, against Manjunath at South police station in November last.

Dhananjaya had accused Shivakumar of assaulting him and his mother, besides trying to outrage her modesty. Following which, the police had booked a case and submitted a chargesheet to the court.
