Mysore rly station to go wi-fi

Service will be offered at Rs 15 per hour

One can surf the internet in any corner of the Station, a first of its kind facility offered by Railways in the nation.

“The facility will cater to tech-savvy IT professionals and business persons carrying laptops and smartphones for whom at times internet is inevitable. It will be dedicated in ten days,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, SWR, Mysore, Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu told media here on Monday.

Ozone, a Delhi-based company, is providing the facility under public private partnership (PPP). The company is identified by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for providing public wi-fi services.

The service provider will create 18 to 25 hotspots from platform one to three in the railway station. Each platform will be having at least eight to nine hotspots that will cover a radius of 300 to 400 meters, he detailed.

Sadhu said considering the stupendous growth of the City, representatives of the company consulted the authorities on launching the facility.

“If it proves to be a success, the facility will be extended to remaining three platforms too,” Dayanand Sadhu said.

Coupons

A person who wants to use the facility will have to collect a coupon priced at Rs 10 for half-an-hour and Rs 15 for one hour and dial the number of service provider printed on the coupons. After collecting a few mandatory details of the user, a particular code number will be given to access the net.

To avoid downloading of any objectionable contents, content filtering technology will be installed. Sadhu said that the Railways will play the role of a host for six months and will share the revenue if the response is encouraging.
