Kempegowda museum planned at Freedom Park

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) budget for 2014-15 was approved in the Council on Monday with few changes, with the outlay remaining at Rs 7773.08 crore.

Announcing new programmes incorporated in the budget, Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said that it had been planned to establish Kempegowda Chair at Bangalore University spending Rs one crore. A Kempegowda Museum at a cost of Rs four crore would come up at Freedom Park. The museum will give insight about Kempegowda.

The idea of corporators donating Rs 25 lakh from their ward funds for road widening works was dropped as a few refused to do so. In the budget, the ward fund was increased from Rs two crore to Rs three crore for old wards and from Rs three crore to Rs four crore for new wards. 

Palike has kept aside Rs 20 lakh for upgrading the school at Srirampuram by partnering with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan which is currently running the institution. 

Emergency repairs

A sum of Rs 60 lakh has been earmarked for emergency repairs to Jayanagar Shopping Complex. The Rajkumar Stadium at Nagapura would be constructed at a cost of Rs three crore. 

The new additions under the education sector include provision for school uniforms; sweaters for nursery, primary and high schools students at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore; distribution of school bags to primary and high school students lakh and private security and housekeeping arrangements at schools and colleges at a cost of Rs three crore.A total of Rs 1.05 crore has been set aside for nursery school contingencies, awards for best schools and fee exemptions for girls.

The funds reserved for providing textbooks and reference books to junior college students has been increased from Rs five lakh to Rs 50 lakh. The allotment for the projects sanctioned by mayor has been increased to Rs 150 crore from Rs 125 crore.
