66k got jobs under PMEGP

Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) K H Muniyappa on Monday, said Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has provided employment to more than 66,706 people and has assisted 7,707 units ever since it’s launch in 2008. 

Briefing reporters, the minister said that a target of 4,215 projects was set for Karnataka for the year 2013-14 with employment target of 33,720 persons. 

Jobs have been created in brick industry, food and fruit processing units, jaggery units, bio-manure units, paddy processing units, leather, carpentry and blacksmith units, garment factories, service industries like mobile repair shops, tent/shamiyana, laundries etc. 

PMEGP also helped entrepreneurs in urban and rural areas of the country and has provided employment to as many as 21.26 lakh persons helping them to set up close to 2.34 lakh enterprises, the minister added.
