Commission for fair price shops hiked

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday said the government had substantially increased the commission to all fair price shops to ensure there was no ill-feeling among owners of the shops.

Responding to a question from BJP MLC Ashwathnarayan, the minister said the government had increased the commission per quintal of rice from Rs 31 to Rs 36; for one quintal of wheat from Rs 25 to Rs 36 and for sugar from Rs 13.37 to Rs 36.

With the increase in the units sold, after the announcement of various subsidy schemes by the State, fair price shops are making substantial profit without creating problems for the beneficiaries, he said.

The government will consider the demand to increase the honorarium per bag for coolies who load and unload food grains at godowns.
