Land losers slam BDA

More than 200 farmers and others who have lost their land to the Arkavathy Layout staged a protest against the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) at Jakkur on Tuesday, slamming the agency for the delay in formally approving the plan for formation of the housing colony.

The protesters said that when the BJP was in power, the BDA had agreed to hand over land to farmers and land losers under 40:60 ratio (40 per cent of developed land will be returned to farmers). But the promise had not been fulfilled yet, they said.
It has been 10 years since the BDA acquired 300 acres of land spread across 16 villages for forming the layout but those who gave up the land for it have not received any benefits as yet, they added.

Sunil N, a member of Arkavathy Raithara Horata Samithi (Arkavathy Farmers’ Struggle Committee) and one of the land losers, alleged that the BDA was not formally approving the layout plan because after that it would not be able notify or denotify areas further.
“A decade has passed but no crop cultivation or development has taken place in the area,” he told Deccan Herald. “We have been left in the lurch. We want to know why the plan has not been approved and why sites are still being notified or denotified.”
The land losers later met the BDA Commissioner, T Sham Bhatt, at the agency’s head office but were not satisfied with the outcome.

Bhatt had this to say: “The BDA was going to work out a plan for developing Arkavathy Layout. Land losers approached me, seeking khata transfer for their sites. I have assured them that it will be done and they need not worry.”
