History-sheeter hacked to death in public glare

A 33-year-old history-sheeter was chased and hacked to death in full public glare by seven members of a rival gang in Anekal on Wednesday, police said.

Mahesh alias Dairy Mahesh, a history-sheeter at Attibele police station, was going home after attending a court hearing when the assailants, who arrived by a car and a two-wheeler, waylaid him around 12.30 pm.

Mahesh started to flee but they chased him down. They pushed him to the ground before hitting him with lethal weapons.

Mahesh’s two associates — Vinod and Shankar, who had accompanied him — were also attacked by the gang when they tried to come to his rescue, police said. The victim’s wife, Gayathri, suspected that old rivalry was the motive for the murder. The couple have a child and stay at Hebbagodi.

Police say they have “definite clues” and would arrest the assailants soon.
