Delhi Secretariat moves near LG house

Last Updated 26 February 2014, 21:14 IST

The Delhi Secretariat will be shifted from Players Building, ITO, to Bungalow number 1, 8 Raj Niwas Marg.

The city government’s Public Works Department (PWD) has allotted the bungalow constructed for ministers for the LG Secretariat. Offices of all the department heads are likely to be shifted to the new address by Friday.

The Delhi government’s public grievance redressal system will also be shifted to the same address.

“As there is no government, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung is the head of the Delhi administration. Every file requires his signature for clearance. Department heads have been asked to report to the new Secretariat by this weekend,” a senior Delhi government official said.

Cabins of the chief minister and all the cabinet ministers of Delhi have been sealed after imposition of the President’s Rule in Delhi but their secretaries and other staffers are sitting in their offices. The officials said that this move will ease the functioning of the government.

“Currently, officials have to rush to the LG’s house for meetings almost every day, which leads to wastage of time. More than 20-25 files require the LG’s signature daily and some officials have to ferry the files to the LG’s house then back to the secretariat,” he said.

“If the LG wants to do some correction in any file, the officials have to go for another sortie of the secretariat. With allotment of the new place, this process will be eased,” he added.

Starting Monday, complainants have to visit the new address for grievance redressal.

Officials said the LG has ordered to launch a 24x7 public grievance system from the secretariat. Many staffers who were working under the minister’s offices are without any work and they are being transferred to different departments.

“Dozens of Delhi Administrative Subordinate Services staffers and other Upper Divisional Clerks and Lower Divisional clerks have been transferred to different departments. Many IAS and state administrative service officials have also been reshuffled,” the official added.

Former Chief Secretary D M Spolia is likely to be appointed as the advisor to the LG.
