Actor Simha battling cancer

Renowned theatre and film personality C R Simha, 71, who is suffering from prostate cancer, is said to be in critical condition and was admitted to a private hospital in the City five days ago.

According to sources in the hospital, Simha has been put on ventilator support and his condition is said to be serious. His son Rohit Simha said on Thursday that the doctors treating the actor have said that he needs rest. “We need his well-wishers’ blessings and prayers for his recovery,” he added.

Simha has acted in over 150 films in Kannada, both commercial and art movies. He was honoured with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award by the Government of India in recognition of his contribution to the theatre, both as an actor and a director. Starting his career in Prabhat Kalavidaru, he went on to start his own theatre group called “Nataranga” in 1972 and directed many successful plays like Kakanakote, Tughlaq and Sankranthi.
