Confusion and disorder prevailed in the City Municipal Council monthly meeting on Friday, as the opposition party members raised objection over the hike in trade license tariff.

Following the chaos, the meeting was adjourned. Arguments and counter arguments, disturbed the ongoing proceedings due to which the meeting was adjourned. Raising the issue, BJP member M R Pai said that 10 per cent hike in trade license tariff is intolerable and is against the Karnataka Municipality Act of 1964. It is illegal and the house should object the move. The Congress is responsible for hiking the fee, he alleged.

On the other hand, BJP members flayed the Congress for going against the democratic system. All the 12 BJP members stood up and displayed red coloured placards against the Congress government.

Retorting to a query, CMC President Yuvaraj said that the issue is mentioned in the supplementary agenda and it can be discussed after the question hour. He also added that it was the district administration’s decision to hike the tariff and the ruling party in the house should not be held responsible.

However, the BJP members who interrupted the President started shouting slogans demanding immediate clarification. The BJP members were in no mood to listen to the version of the President and the Commissioner. They were adamant that the President should clarify the issue. After the exchange of war of words and heated arguments, the President declared that the question hour is over and directed the Commissioner to read out the agenda proceedings.Meanwhile, the BJP members continued to shout slogans alleging the President and ruling party of violating the Municipal Act.

MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj assured that the trade license tariff will not be hiked and the previous tariff amount will be continued.

However, BJP members continued to interrupt demanding answers to the query they posed, following which the President declared that the meeting is adjourned.
