Sena dumps veteran leader Joshi

Former Lok Sabha Speaker and Shiv Sena’s senior-most leader Manohar Joshi, who was denied a Rajya Sabha nomination, has now been refused a ticket for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, signalling an end of political innings. On Friday, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray announced the list of 15 names but Joshi, who is one of the founders of the party, found himself totally ignored and thrown into oblivion.

Sources said the 76-year-old politician, who has seen many electoral battles, may be asked to become an ideologue of Maharashtra’s first regional political outfit. In his 40-year political career, Joshi had enjoyed special privilege when party’s former chief late Bal Thackeray was alive, by being awarded positions ranging from Mayor of Mumbai, Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
