Villagers demand underpass on NH-7, stage protest

The farmers blocked the work on the by-pass road, alleging that no officials had listened to their woes till Tuesday evening. Earlier, the farmers themselves had relaid the Manchanabale road. They made their protest known by digging a huge pit on the bypass road.

Accidents

“All residents travelling through Manchanabale and Dibbur will need to use this road. Everyday, hundreds of students cycle to their schools and colleges, and there is a huge chance of accidents occurring when they are crossing the by-pass road. So, an underpass should be constructed for those travelling through this road,” the villagers demanded.

The villagers also stated that they had staged protests twice earlier, following which the the Deputy Commissioner and the contractor concerned had assured them of building an underpass. “Now, the road is almost complete, but there is no sign of an underpass. It was just a ploy by the contractor to save money. If there is no underpass there are bound to be accidents on this stretch everyday, so an underpass must be built immediately. If not, we will obstruct the works,” they said.
