North Corpn to set up women-only parks

In a bid to encourage women to come out in the open and feel safe, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has planned to set up ‘women parks’ in the areas under its jurisdiction.

An amount of Rs 1 crore has been earmarked in the budget for next financial year.North Corporation Mayor Azad Singh said, “Some areas have been identified for women parks. The corporation will try to build these parks by 2015.”

Space to hang out

“Such facility will provide specified space to women where they can hang out and socialise,” Singh added. The north civic agency is all set to launch Stri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna on Thursday, Singh added.

The scheme will be started in collaboration with All India Institute of Medical Sciences under which women from economically weaker section will be diagnosed for cancer free of cost, Mayor  Azad Singh said.

“If they are found positive, they will be referred to empanelled hospitals for treatment.” A total amount of Rs 1 crore has been allocated for the scheme, the mayor said.

About 48 locations have been identified where public toilets for women will be constructed, said Mohan Bhardwaj, the North Corporation Standing Committee Chairman.

For the proper upkeep and maintenence of these parks and toilets, the civic agency has decided to give an appreciation amount of Rs 2,100 each year to sanitation workers for excellence in work.

Illegal hoardingsThe advertisement department of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has organised special drives with the help of zonal authorities to remove illegal hoardings – political and others – from the areas under its jurisdiction. A total of 2,347 hoardings have been removed in four zones under its limits.
