Siddaramaiah hurries to please followers

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, is said to have recommended former Union minister C M Ibrahim for the position of deputy chairperson of the State Planning Board.

Siddaramaiah has been under pressure to make political appointments to accommodate party functionaries and also keep senior legislators who have not been inducted into the Cabinet in good humour.

The chief minister is learnt to have recommended senior legislator C S Nadagouda to be appointed as the State’s special representative in New Delhi. Five-time legislator Nadagouda hails from Bijapur district. He has also chosen former minister Jabbar Khan Honnali to be nominated to the Legislative Council. All recommendations have been sent to the party high command for approval, sources said.

Siddaramaiah had been criticised by his own party legislators for not giving preference to Muslims.

Ibrahim and Honnali, both belong to the Muslim community. Ibrahim, who lost the 2013 Assembly elections contesting from Bhadravathi, is a close aide of Siddaramaiah.
