Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association has finally agreed to the State government’s decision to set up a Cubbon Park Management Authority (CPMA).

The association members, who had earlier opposed the proposal, on Thursday agreed to the formation of a park management authority, after a meeting with Director of the Horticulture Department D L Maheshwar and Principal Secretary to the Agriculture Department Bharat Lal Meena.

Association president S Umesh said: “The authorities told us that the decision to have a Cubbon Park Management Authority was taken by the government for the welfare of the public and to restore the glory of the Park.

They also said the Authority would have representatives from our association, besides environmentalists, social activists and others on board. Hence, we have given them the green signal and decided to lend our support. In case they do not keep their word, we will hold protests again.”

The association also suggested to the officials to hold flower shows and cultural activities on the Cubbon Park premises, along the lines of the Lalbagh Gardens. CPMA will work closely with the Tourism department, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company and other stakeholders, and take steps to improve the facilities at the Park.
