Lalu aide quits over Misa nomination

Last Updated 06 March 2014, 20:07 IST

In a severe jolt to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad, one of his trusted aides and Rajya Sabha member Ram Kripal Yadav resigned from the party protesting nomination of Lalu’s daughter Misa Bharti from Patliputra constituency.

Ram Kripal, who had earlier been an MP from Patna (before delimitation) was an aspirant for Pataliputra seat.

In 2009, Lalu had contested from Patliputra as well as Saran. He lost from Patliputra, but managed to retain Saran. Apart from Misa, Lalu’s wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi will be the RJD nominee from Saran. This was announced while releasing the party list of Lok Sabha nominees.

The move was necessitated as Lalu has been debarred from contesting any election. He, therefore, nominated his wife from the seat he won last time while Misa Bharti from Patliputra. Incidentally, Misa, born in mid-70s, was named so to protest the draconian law of Emergency days — Maintenance of Internal Security Act.
