No Yettinahole project at any cost: Poojary

Last Updated 07 March 2014, 16:53 IST

Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary has batted against Yettinahole project and has said that he will not let the project implemented at any cost.

There are several other options to supply water to Kolar, Chikballapur and other parched districts. It is not necessary to divert Netravati river, he said.

He was addressing mediapersons during his visit to Puttur to participate in the Congress workers meeting in connection to primary election for Mangalore constituency, on Thursday.

Terming the unity of people irrespective of political differences during the bandh as a warning bell, Poojary said that Cauvery river water could be supplied to the people of plateau region. He also assured that he would not let thermal power plant to be established in Niddodi.

Commenting on the new method of selection of candidates for the Congress, he said it was a welcome move. The Congress High Command used to decide the candidates in the past, but now the power has been given to the party workers, which is a good development. Henceforth, the candidates need not go to Bangalore or Delhi seeking candidature. The right of selecting candidates has been vested in the hands of party workers.

All political parties should adopt this democratic method of selecting candidates. The method will only make the party High Command and Pradesh Congress weak, Poojary said.

When questioned if the internal elections will create different groups, he replied in negative. Whoever be the winner of the primary election, the party will work unitedly towards the victory of the candidate in the Lok Sabha election.

A few might have been hurt by primary election, but the pain is only temporary. Within the party, nobody hates anybody. “Our opponents are only the BJP and the JD(S),” he re-iterated.
