Almost 99 pc voters in LS constituency have voter ids, says Kunjappa

Deputy Commissioner of Chamarajanagar, A M Kunjappa said that the necessary preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are being made in the district.

“Election officials are being trained regarding poll procedures, and instructions have been relayed to political parties against violating poll code,” he said.

Notifications for elections for Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency is expected to be issued on March 19. Chamarajanagar, Hanur, Gundlupet and Kollegal Assembly constituencies of Chamarajanagar district, Varuna, Nanjangud, T Narsipur and H D Kote Assembly constituencies of Mysore district are part of the Lok Sabha constituency.

He urged all political parties to take permission from concerned election officials, before organising campaign meetings and rallies. 

Action will be taken against any person who violates the code of conduct, he said.Currently, election expenses per candidate has been increased from Rs 40 to Rs 70 lakh. A candidate has to pay a deposit amount of Rs 25,000. Since, Chamarajanagar is reserved for Scheduled Castes, the deposit amount is Rs 12,500, he said.


Enrolment procedure of new voters has been a continuous process. In order to provide opportunity for people without voter cards to enrol for voter ID card, Election Commission has extended the date of enrolment for voter IDs till March 16.  

Responding to the alleged poll code violation at Yalandur on the day elections were announced, he said that notices have been served to the concerned persons, who have been alleged to have violated poll code.Kunjappa said that almost 99 per cent of the people in the district had identity cards to vote in the upcoming election.

He said that there were a total of 15,28,611 voters in the Lok Sabha constituency, of which 7,75,850 were men and 7,52,707 were women. A total of 1,940 polling booths will be opened on election day, he said.
