Fresh draw of lots for admission now

First list of selected students by April 7

The capital's schools are to conduct fresh lotteries for all the categories and display the first list of selected candidates by April 7 followed by a second list on April 15.

This is the new schedule for admissions to nursery classes across the city issued on Friday by the capital's Directorate of Education (DoE).

And more lists, if any, must be displayed between April 16 and 21, the DoE said. The admission process will end on April 25, which was earlier supposed to be over by March 31.“It is directed that all candidates having equal marks shall be considered equally by conducting a fresh draw of lots, wherever necessary,” said the DoE notification.

The DoE took the step after the High Court ordered a fresh draw of lots in the nursery admission process for all seats. According to the court order, the selection so far of the candidates is now null and void.

Parents said it is disappointing to see that the admission process is not coming to an end. “We have to go through the same tedious process again. We were thinking it was just a matter of a few days but now the process has been delayed by 25 days,” said Mallika Gupta, who is seeking admission of her three-year old daughter.

“Such fluctuations show inefficiency on the part of the government. It also shows that the system is least bothered about children,” she added. After scrapping of the inter-state transfer points, the total number of points that can be allotted is 95 against the earlier 100 points.
