'I can do things on my own'

Sibling rivalry

'I can do things on my own'

Actress Meera Chopra has said that her actress-cousin Priyanka Chopra is always ready to help in her Bollywood career and she shares an ‘emotional bond’ with her.

Meera revealed that she was close to Priyanka but not to her other actress-cousin Parineeti. Ever since Meera, who has acted in several South Indian films, wanted to work in Bollywood, there were reports of the sibling rivalry as both Priyanka and Parineeti used to snub her. Parineeti even went on to say that Meera isn’t family but a distant relative.

Meera said that Parineeti’s remarks against her were ‘unwarranted and stupid’. “We all have been brought up together 20 years ago.

We used to stay together. All the brothers were close to each other before they spilt up and were brought up in different cities. Parineeti is young, Priyanka and I are of same age. We are close,” Meera said.

“When she (Parineeti) talks like that...I think it is stupid...Why would you talk like that? It doesn’t disturb me as I don’t have any emotional connect with her. I don’t remember the time spent with her (sic),” she said.

But if such statements would have come from Priyanka, it would have
definitely bothered Meera as they share a close relationship. Meera reveals that Priyanka was angry as to why she did not show her anything about her upcoming film 'Gangs of Ghost'.

“I told her I did not show it to her because the film is not ready. Once it is ready, I will definitely show it to her for sure. She has always been there for me but I have never asked her for anything. She is a sister, a superstar and she knows I have self respect and that I will never ask for anything,” Meera said.

Priyanka had promoted Meera’s film, 'Gang of Ghosts' by sharing the film’s theatrical trailer and tweeting: “My sister’s first Hindi movie! Check it!!! (sic)”.

“It was sweet of Priyanka to tweet about the film. She did it herself. I did not ask
her to do it. I want to prove a point to my family and to everybody that I can do things on my own. Now, when I need help, I will ask her,” Meera said.

For Meera, Priyanka has always been a “huge inspiration” because she has risen to stardom on her own and without any background or godfather. “When I decided to get into Bollywood, I decided not to use her name (to get work) and she appreciates this. I want people to take me in films due to my talent and not because of Priyanka putting a word that she is related to me,” Meera said.

Meera has two films in hand– Satish Kaushik’s ‘Gangs of Ghost’ and Vikram Bhatt’s ‘1920 London’.
