Gujarat's MPs are willing to vacate LS seats for Modi

Unlike in Uttar Pradesh and other northern states, where senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party are slugging it out over who will be allotted which Parliamentary constituency for the elections, the party’s MPs in Gujarat are more than willing to vacate their seats for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who will debut on the national stage.

According to the party, MPs in the state are ready to give up their seats for their prime ministerial candidate. While it is being said that Modi would much prefer to contest from a safe seat like Ahmedabad East or Vadodara instead of hedging his fortunes in unfamiliar UP, sitting MPs have given Modi several more options in his home state.

“The CM is already popular in the state, so there is nothing like safe seat in Gujarat, he can contest from anywhere he wants to and party workers

and leaders will support him to the hilt,” said state BJP spokesperson Vijay Rupani on Saturday.

The list for Gujarat will be finalised after Holi and party workers would be more than happy to see Modi contesting from Gujarat, said Rupani.

Vadodara, which comprises of mostly working and business class voters, has been a BJP bastion since the Congress lost it in 1989.

The sitting MP from Vadodara, Balkrishna Shukla defeated Congress candidate and former MP Satyajitsinh Gaekwad by over one lakh votes.
