Last Updated 17 March 2014, 20:38 IST

Citizen services at Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have taken backseat, inconveniencing people thanks to Lok Sabha elections. Since BBMP Commissioner is District Election Officer of Bangalore Urban District, BBMP machinery has been pressed into election duty.

Palike officers are engaged in removing political posters and banners, checking violations of poll code, bringing out electoral roll and enrolment of fresh voters. Those approaching to get khata, building plan approval, possession certificates and occupancy certificates have been asked to wait till elections are over. At AGS Layout, in Ittamadu, V Rajesh, who sought details to submit application for building plan approval, was told to come a month later.

Senior BBMP officials admit citizen services have been affected. “The problem is at zonal level offices. Senior officers may not be available to give necessary approvals,” a senior officer said.
