'High-profile' flesh trade racket busted

The Central Crime Branch officers have arrested a couple and their accomplice for allegedly running a ‘high-profile’ flesh trade racket in the City.

The arrested are — Balamurali, 42, a native of Theni in Tamil Nadu, his wife Bharathi, 42, and Dinesh, 21, a native of Rajasthan. The couple were living in a house in Koramangala. On a tip-off, the police raided the house and arrested the suspects.

They have rescued a woman from Davanagere, who was pushed into prostitution by the trio and have also seized Rs 1.07 lakh in cash, a laptop, six cellphones, 19 SIM cards and other documents.

The couple shifted to Bangalore five years ago and Balamurali was employed at a private company. He, however, incurred huge losses after he ventured into a business. To recover from their losses, the couple decided to run a brothel, police added.

Bharathi who ran a placement agency and a serviced apartment in Koramangala, used the agency to identify and exploit poor girls and women. She would later push them into prostitution. Bharathi used her houses and flats as brothel, police added.

She had also advertised about her serviced apartment and escort service on the Internet.
The couple would upload nude pictures of women on two websites with contact numbers. They had a band of 50 girls, police added.
