The track ‘Jai Ho’ which got Rahman two Academy awards and a Golden Globe, has been nominated in the category of ‘Best Song written for Motion Picture, Television or Other visual media’. Rahman has also been nominated in the category of ‘Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, TV or Other visual Media’ for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

Incidentally, this is the first time that the 44-year-old Indian musician has been nominated for the Grammys’, popularly known as the Oscars of the music industry.
The song ‘Jai Ho’ written by Gulzar for the 2008 film will face-off with Bruce Springsteen’s title track for ‘The Wrestler’, ‘Once in a Lifetime’ from film ‘Cadillac Records’, ‘Decode’ from ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Client’ from ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’.
The album which had earlier knocked-off Lady GaGa’s ‘The Fame’ on Billboards chart will now compete with the soundtracks of Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’, Beyonce starrer ‘Cadillac Records’, HBO’s vampire series ‘True Blood’ and Robert Pattinson starrer Vampire-romance ‘Twilight’.

Beyonce leads

Meanwhile, Beyonce has garnered the most Grammy nominations on Wednesday night with 10 nods, including nominations for album of the year for “I Am ... Sasha Fierce,” song of the year for her anthem “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” and record of the year for “Halo.”

Country crossover sensation Taylor Swift— the year’s best-selling artist outside of the late Michael Jackson -- wasn’t far behind Beyonce. The 19-year-old got eight nominations, including album of the year for her multiplatinum sophomore disc “Fearless,” as well as song and record of the year for her hit, “You Belong With Me.”
Swift, who has won everything from American Music Awards to Country Music Association trophies to that now-infamous MTV Video Music Award moonman, said her Grammy nominations represented the apex for her.

Another diva was also nominated in all three categories: Lady Gaga.  Other nominees for album of the year included the Black Eyed Peas “The E.N.D.” and Dave Matthews Band’s “Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.”

The Grammy awards will be presented on January 31st at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.
