Punished in Assembly polls, BJP will win now : Joshi

BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday that the party had already been punished by the people for its infighting, with the defeat in the Assembly elections in 2013.

Joshi expressed confidence that it would be a different ball game in the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at an interaction with the media, Joshi said infighting during the BJP regime in the State had cost the party dear in the Assembly elections.

“We have already apologised to the people for the same. We have learnt from our mistakes and will not repeat them,” Joshi said and added that people will vote against the UPA government at the Centre for its “non-performance.”

Replying to a query on the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi emerging larger than the party, Joshi said, “I feel that BJP and Modi share the relationship of a mother and son. The mother, the party in this case, has groomed her son Modi to success. The mother is feeling proud of her son.”

To another question, Joshi said former minister B Sriramulu will have to quit as MLA from Bellary Rural, which he won on a BSR Congress ticket, to contest from the Bellary Lok Sabha constituency on a BJP ticket.

Sriramulu had recently rejoined the BJP, but had not quit as legislator.

On the reinduction of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s supporters into the BJP, Joshi said the party had made efforts to induct a majority of them. However, former Union minister V Dhananjay Kumar had not regretted for his statements against senior leader L K Advani and it was not possible for the party to reinduct persons who had such attitude.

In a related development, former deputy chief minister R Ashoka met MLC and erstwhile Yeddyurappa supporter M D Lakshminarayana and urged him not to join the Congress.
