Uninor launches its GSM services across 7 circles in India

In terms of GSM footprint in a single day, this is the largest Greenfield launch operation in telecom history, the company claimed. On launch day, the network will cover a national footprint of close to 600 million.

Uninor is a joint venture between Norway’s telecom firm Telenor and India’s real estate firm Unitech Ltd. “With launch in seven circles and roaming agreements in place for the rest, we have started our service in India on day one as a pan-Indian national operator,” Unitech Wireless Managing Director Stein-Erik Vellan said.
For the Karnataka market the company will use a slogan ‘EEGA NAN NUMBER’ or ‘My time is now’ the company announced in Bangalore.

Karnataka hub’s Executive Vice-President Ann Hofvander said “We’re breaking records in terms of footprint, speed and distribution. Our business is about people —— real life young, aspiring people whose dreams and aspirations our services will be tools to help fulfill.” On launch day, Uninor will be retailed at over 2,10,000 points of sale through close to 1,000 exclusive distributors in the seven circles. Its SIM cards will be available at supermarkets, kirana shops, chemists etc.
