Australia clip Kiwi wings in cliffhanger

Australia beat their old rivals New Zealand by three runs in a T20 World Cup warm-up game here on Wednesday.

Riding on a blitzkrieg from David Warner (65, 26b, 7x4, 5x6), Australia had posted 200/7 in their 20 overs. Chasing the steep target, the Kiwis almost pulled it off but faltered at the death to fall agonisingly short of the target.

Aaron Finch (47), Shane Watson (27) and Brad Hodge contributed with their cameos to spur Australia to a healthy total.

Meanwhile, West Indies registered a comfortable 33-run victory over Sri Lanka in another warm-up game at Mirpur.

Spinner Sunil Narine was the wrecker-in-chief with figures of 4/24 as the Islanders were up against the run-rate after the Caribbeans had scored 172/5 in their 20 overs.

Clinical SASouth Africa laid down a serious marker of their title aspirations by beating strong contenders Pakistan thanks to a clinical bowling performance by their bowlers.

After Pakistan won the toss, their batsmen were all over the shop and were dismissed by the South African bowlers for a paltry 71 in 17.3 overs. Lonwabo Tsotsobe (2/15), Beuran Hendricks (2/3) and Wane Parnell (2-2) all chipped in with two wickets.
