Kalyan is a rival, says Chiranjeevi

Union minister and Congress leader K Chiranjeevi on Thursday made it amply clear to his younger brother Pawan Kalyan that he would not tolerate anyone criticising the Congress.

Chiranjeevi said that he considers his brother, who recently launched the political party Jana Sena, a political rival.

“As an elder brother, I will give him my blessings, but I can’t keep quiet if he targets the Congress,” he told reporters.

Chiranjeevi, who is heading the party’s campaign committee in Seemandhra, believes the Jana Sena will not be a hurdle for the Congress.

“Brothers in a family may not have the same views. Every individual will have a different temperament, different views about society and different expectations. Everybody has the right to form his party,” the former Telugu superstar said.

While launching his new party last week, Pawan Kalyan had come up with the slogan ‘Congress hatao, desh bachao’.

Chiranjeevi had formed the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) before the 2009 elections and later merged it with the Congress. The former actor said he was confident that the Congress would come to power in Seemandhra.

He also said that a bus yatra will be launched in the state from Friday, to create enthusiasm among party cadres.

“We promise to build a new Andhra Pradesh and make it the number one state in the country with help from the central government,” he added.

Reacting to a comment made by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao that if the TRS came to power in Telangana, it would remove all Seemandhra employees to the residual state and stop construction of the Polavaram project, Chiranjeevi said that the people of Seemandhra would be safe under Congress rule.
