Venkaiah confident of Modi wave in TN

‘This is not Amma's election or Aiyya's election... This is Bhaiyya's election,’ said and senior BJP leader and former party chief M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday, emphasising that there was indeed a wave across the country in favour of prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Naidu was referring to Tamil Nadu political spectrum ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

He said that for the first time in 45 years, the BJP has a genuine chance of making headway in Tamil Nadu, thanks to an alliance it has put in place to tackle the two traditionally-strong Dravidian parties—the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led by Chief Minister J Jayalaliltha (Amma), and M Karunanidhi’s (Aiyya) Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

The BJP in Tamil Nadu has stitched together a rainbow alliance, which includes actor Vijayakanth’s DMDK, Vaiko’s MDMK, PMK led by Dr S Ramadoss, the IJK and the Kongu Nadu Makkal Desiya Katchi.

“We are confident that this alliance will be a successful alliance,” Naidu said.

When people countered that a mere Modi wave was not sufficient for the BJP in Tamil Nadu, Naidu, in a veiled reference to the AIADMK and DMK, quipped, “This is neither Amma's election or Aiyya's election. This is 'Bhaiyya's election.”

On expelled DMK leader and union minister M K Alagiri praising Modi, Naidu said, “First father (Karunanidhi) praised Modi. Now son... this is the Modi wave.”

He claimed Tamil Nadu was in for a big surprise and the BJP-led alliance would win maximum number of seats.
